It's the 45th anniversary of man landing on the moon, and the occasion is being marked by opening of a new space exhibit at the Patriots Point Naval and Maritime Museum on Charleston Harbor.
Visitors can enter a replica of the Apollo 8 capsule and experience what it's like to fly to the moon. The attraction displays film footage and radio communications from the December 1968 mission. Visitors feel their seats rumble on takeoff and shake upon splashdown.
In Apollo 8, astronauts orbited the moon for the first time. The next summer, Apollo 11 made the first moon landing.
The Apollo 8 capsule was recovered by the USS Yorktown, and the new exhibit is part of a five-million-dollar effort to make exhibits on the ship more interactive.
