The body of a six-year-old boy was found in Oregon's Yaquina Bay after a mother called cops to say she'd thrown her son off a bridge, officials said early Tuesday. Authorities mounted an intensive search, with two Coast Guard vessels and a helicopter backing up the local fire department and first responders, following the mother's report late Monday to police in Newport, Oregon - about 130 miles from Portland.
Coast Guard spokesman Jonathan Klingenberg said early Tuesday that a boy's body had been recovered. He said a good Samaritan had called in after spotting a body from the restaurant and lounge of the Yaquina Bay Bridge, prompting the Coast Guard's 25-foot vessel and Fire Department to zero in on the location. 'The fire department got there first and recovered the body,' he told NBC News. 'It's absolutely a tragedy. Most of us all have families.' NBC station KGW reported the body was located in the water near the Embarcadero Resort and that police have detained the boy's mother.
