In today’s UnPresidented podcast, Cliff and I talk about concerns by some on the left that President Biden is being too bipartisan by nominating former Republican Senator, and anti-Trumper, Jeff Flake as his new ambassador to Turkey.
While Flake was pretty outspoken about Trump, he never really did anything about it. In the Senate, where I once worked, one Senator has a lot of power to muck things up if he or she isn’t getting their way. Flake could have held Trump’s entire agenda hostage in exchange for Trump promising to be less crazy, less racist, less Putin-y, etc. But he didn’t. Flake, like Susan Collins, expressed his disappointment in Trump, a lot, but never lifted a finger to help fix the problem.
Having said that, both Cliff and I think it was a smart move nominating Flake, and you’ll just have to listen to the podcast to find out why!
The other topics we delve into include Texas Democrats trying to stop a new Jim Crow law in that state, Dan Crenshaw trying to convince Black voters that Democrats are bad because they supported the Civil War. Yes, Dan, Dems were racist 156 years ago, and Republicans are racist today. And finally, we talk about Republicans freaking out that a literal racist, white supremacist, Holocaust-denier — he’s really bad — finally got kicked out Twitter. It’s hard to imagine how anyone could defend a guy like this, but Republicans have managed to do it.
That’s it for today’s show. You can listen to 30 minutes here, and then, if the spirit moves you, head on over to Patreon and become a patron. Thanks so much.
