President Obama said Thursday that he has no personal issues with Republicans - in fact, he said they're a lot like his own family members who simply 'have bad ideas' and aren't fit to be 'in charge.'
Speaking at a campaign rally for Maine gubernatorial candidate Mike Michaud, Mr. Obama said that Republicans, while patriots who love their country and their families, simply have the wrong prescription for the U.S. economy.
'They've got some bad ideas. Which is OK ... I've got a lot of folks in my family who have bad ideas. I love them, but I don't want them in charge of stuff,' the president said.
Mr. Michaud, a Democrat, is locked in a tight race with incumbent Republican Gov. Paul LePage.
Mr. Obama urged voters to reject the GOP philosophy toward the economy and put Democrats in charge at both the state and federal levels. He argued that Republican economic principles have been tried and have failed.
'We've tried those things. We tried those things before I got into office, and you saw how it turned out. We know those ideas don't work,' the president said.
Before the rally for Mr. Michaud, Mr. Obama attended a closed-door fundraiser for the Democratic National Committee. He'll deliver a speech on the economy in Rhode Island on Friday.
