49 people were just shot to death at a gay club in Orlando, Florida, in the worst mass-murder in American history. Which raises the question of why Ted Cruz, Mike Huckabee, and Bobby Jindal attended a rally only six months ago, at which the host called for gays to be put to death.
And they said nothing.
In the hours following the Orland attack, anti-gay Republicans of all stripes immediately went on Twitter to express their condolences for, and solidarity with, the LGBT community they routinely disparage.
Former GOP presidential candidates Ted Cruz, Mike Huckabee, and Bobby Jindal were among them.
But what Cruz, Huckabee and Jindal might not want you to know is that a little over six months ago they attended a Republican presidential candidate rally, called the National Religious Liberties Conference, in Iowa where the host of the rally, Pastor Kevin Swanson, called for gays to be put to death, right before introducing three candidates and shaking their hands.
And the candidates said nothing about it.

Let me quote a bit of what Swanson said at the event before introducing the GOP candidates:
At the 6:45 mark in the video below, Swanson talks about gay people: “These are the people with the sore, the gaping sores, the sores that are puss-y and gross, and people are carving happy faces on the sores. Don’t you dare carve happy faces on open puss-y sores.”
He seems nice.
At the 8:17 mark in the video below, Swanson starts talking about putting gays to death: “Yes, Leviticus 20:13 calls for the death penalty for homosexuals. Yes, Romans chapter 1 verse 32, the apostle Paul does say that homosexuals are worthy of death. His words not mine, and I am not ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ. And I am not afraid of the truth of the word of God.
Swanson went on to ask rhetorically whether he really wants to immediately put gays to death. Swanson replied “no” — but get his reason why:
“We need some time for homosexuals to repent.”
In other words, yes kill the gays, but only after a decent interval in which you give them a chance to renounce their sin. Otherwise, stone ’em.
Americans wonder why oh why these crazy men pick up a gun and shoot people. Well perhaps, just perhaps, they’re listening to hatred and vitriol spewing from one of the country’s two major political parties.
In view of what has happened in Orlando, it is high past time for Cruz, Huckabee and Jindal to apologize to every gay person in America for tacitly condoning a call to murder gay people, simply to curry favor with a bigot.
