An adviser to Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump suggested today that Donald Trump agrees with him that Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton should be shot for treason, or perhaps electrocuted in the chair.
The adviser, Al Baldasaro, is a Trump delegate and co-chair of Trump’s veterans coalition, and appeared with Trump recently to rebut allegations that Trump has stiffed veterans groups on millions of promised donations.
Baldasaro said the following on Tuesday to Cleveland radio station WRKO:
Talking about the raid on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya on Sept. 11, 2012, Baldasaro said Clinton “is a disgrace. The lies she told those mothers about their children that got killed over there in Benghazi … She dropped the ball on over 400 emails requesting backup, security. Something’s wrong there.”
“This whole thing disgusts me,” Baldasaro said. “Hillary Clinton should be put in the firing line and shot for treason.”
Baldasaro then repeated the statements to WMUR on Wednesday, making clear he wasn’t simply speaking metaphorically:
“I’m a military man first, and anyone who takes information about our CIA or Secret Service and people at our embassy and puts it out on a server where anyone can grab it, putting Americans in danger to be killed, should be held accountable.”
“As far as I’m concerned it is treason and the penalty for treason is the firing squad – or maybe it’s the electric chair now,” Baldasaro said.
Now Alexandra Jaffe at NBC reports that when asked if he thinks Trump agrees with him that Hillary should be put to death, Baldasaro pointed to Trump’s earlier comments that Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl should have been executed for leaving his post in Afghanistan:
“We’re tired of Sgt. Bergdahl, who’s a traitor, a no-good traitor, who should have been executed,” Trump said to cheers at a rowdy rally inside a packed Las Vegas theater at the casino-hotel Treasure Island.
In other words, Trump agrees, per Baldasaro, about killing Hillary. Here’s Hillary’s campaign tweeting about it:
Here’s Trump appearing with Baldasaro two months ago. If you saw the event live, you’ll recognize Baldasaro. His tone was jarring.
