Fox News is apoplectic this morning over the fact that American newspapers have adopted words like “democracy” and “truth” as part of their new slogans.
You see, in Fox-land, democracy is a liberal plot to unseat Donald Trump.
And sadly, Fox isn’t entirely wrong. Donald Trump does seem increasingly antagonized by democracy, and we know the man has rarely met a lie he didn’t embrace. You’ll recall that Trump recently invoked Stalin by calling the America media “the enemy of the people.” That’s a phrase Stalin used before he murdered his political opponents.
So it’s not a stretch to say that Donald Trump is no friend of democracy or truth.
Fox is particularly annoyed with the Washington Post, that has adopted the slogan “Democracy dies in darkness,” and is selling t-shirts.
Fox is also upset that the Chicago Tribune is selling shirts emblazoned with: “Speaking truth to power since 1847.” Because at Fox News, you only speak truth to power when the power is a Democrat.
And Fox is ticked that the Los Angeles Times is selling shirts saying “Journalism Matters.” Because at Fox, journalism has never mattered.
While Fox’s journalistic bona fides are a joke — the network is little more than a propaganda arm of the Republican party — Shep Smith has been good of late, and practicing actual journalism, including holding Trump accountable for his excesses.
Judging by Hannity’s ongoing defense of Russia, perhaps Fox would be more comfortable with a hammer and sickle?
