Turns out not everyone on the Hill is a 'House of Cards' fan: Rep. Paul Ryan says he stopped watching the Netflix show after one episode 'turned his stomach.'
'I watched the first couple of episodes until [Frank Underwood} cheated on his wife with that reporter. It turned my stomach so much that I just couldn't watch it anymore,' the Wisconsin Republican told Parade in an interview published Friday.
One of Ryan's colleagues, House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy actually showed Kevin Spacey the ropes of the Capitol while the actor was preparing for his role of Underwood. However, Ryan, who called Underwood 'reprehensible,' worried viewers might not be able to separate fact from fiction.
'His behavior was so reprehensible, and it hit too close to home because he was a House member, that it just bothered me too much. And what I thought is, it makes us all look like we're like that,' Ryan said.
A popular 'Frank Underwood' Twitter account responded to the lawmaker's criticism on the social media platform later on Friday.
You have no idea what it means for something to 'hit too close to home', @RepPaulRyan. Not yet, anyway.
