Investigators are searching for evidence in the town of Hermon in the abduction of two Amish girls. 7 News reporter John Friot has learned that police have focused attention on a particular house on County Route 21 and have set up a roadblock where that road connects with Marshville Road. There's police tape around the house and Friot was told there's a small, white car in the driveway. A neighbor told Friot a red car was seen escorted from the home by sheriff's deputies.
The cars match the description of two vehicles connected to the kidnapping. Once was described as a white or light-colored four-door sedan, the other as a red Dodge Caliber.
St. Lawrence County Sheriff Kevin Wells said Friday afternoon that investigators are searching several locations and have set up road blocks to keep the sites secure.
Otherwise, Wells released few details about the investigation.
He also confirmed that more than one person was involved in the abduction and investigators are looking for more than one vehicle.
The abducted girls, 12 year old Fannie Miller and 6 year old Delila Miller were returned safely to their Heuvelton-area home Thursday night by Richville-area resident Jeffrey Stinson. The sisters knocked on his door after whoever took them dropped them off nearby his home.
Police scrambled to track down leads throughout the day. They got some extra help from U.S. Homeland Security, which operates security cameras -- like the one shown below -- on utility poles throughout the county. Officials say the cameras are there to help better secure the U.S.-Canadian border.
