USADaily -
Jimmy Kimmel revealed last night, on the air, that his new son Billy was born last week with a heart defect, and had to undergo open-heart surgery on his third day of life.
Kimmel’s emotional telling of the tale is just heart-wrenching to watch.
Kimmel ended the monologue (about 10 minutes in) with a defense of Obamacare, telling the audience that no parent should have to decide between the life of their child and money.
Seriously, you need to watch this video, then please share it. As you know, Donald Trump and Republicans in the US House are on the verge of reaching a deal to repeal Obamacare and its guarantees to protect people with pre-existing conditions, people like Jimmy Kimmel’s son. The deal would also gut Obamacare’s requirement that all insurance policies cover maternity care, prescriptions drugs, emergency care and more. And the bill will permit insurance companies to raise premiums by 66% on people age 50-64.
And finally, the Republican Congress and Donald Trump have exempted members of Congress and their staff from the repeal, so they get to keep their Obamacare while yours gets gutted.
Yesterday, a Republican Congressman, who is a member of the House GOP Freedom Caucus that wrote the repeal, said that good people don’t have pre-existing conditions — only people who lead bad lives get sick — essentially blaming people like Kimmel and his son, and you and me, for their own health woes.
After you watch the video, use this simple Web site to call, tweet and Facebook the key swing votes in the US House. Tell them to vote NO on repealing the Affordable Care Act (aka Obamacare).
Also add your name to our petition, calling on Congress to save Obamacare.
With the election of Donald Trump, AMERICAblog’s independent journalism and activism is more needed than ever.
