CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Police in Charlottesville, Va., have taken clothing from the apartment of the man they believe was the last person seen with a missing University of Virginia student.
Charlottesville Police Capt. Gary Pleasants said the items were recovered during a search of Jesse Leroy Matthew Jr.'s apartment Monday.
Matthew, a nursing assistant at University of Virginia Hospital, is seen in two surveillance videos with Hannah Graham, the 18-year-old who has been missing since Sept. 13. In one of the videos, Matthew's arm is around Graham, authorities said.
Witnesses said they saw Matthew with Graham at Tempo Restaurant early that morning.

Authorities first searched the 32-year-old's car and apartment Friday, and Pleasants said information that came up during the investigation led to a second search of the apartment. He would not give details about the clothing or elaborate on the search.

Police are hoping that DNA evidence from items seized from Matthew's home and car can help them find Graham.

Authorities are still trying to locate Matthew, who is wanted on a reckless driving charge.
He hasn't been charged in the disappearance of the sophomore from northern Virginia, but authorities say they want to talk to him about Graham.
Sept. 13
Pleasants said authorities have not had contact with Matthew since Saturday, when he stopped by the Charlottesville police station with several family members for about an hour and asked for a lawyer. He was provided with one but left in a vehicle at a high rate of speed that endangered other drivers and led to the reckless driving charges, Charlottesville police Chief Timothy Longo has said.
The search for Matthew has been intense as police stop anyone who might resemble Matthew.
Matthew works as a patient technician in the operating room at the University of Virginia hospital. He used to work as a cab driver for Yellow Cab.
'I'd be very surprised if he were involved in this in a negative manner,' said John Amata, who used to work with Matthew.
