Gaffe-prone Texas Gov. Rick Perry made a social media faux pas Sunday night after an image appeared up on his Twitter account of an insulting meme of the Democratic district attorney at the center of his felony abuse of power indictment.
A tweet appeared late Sunday night on Perry's official, verified account showing a picture of Travis County District Attorney Rosemary Lehmberg, for whom Perry cancelled funding for an investigative team after she was convicted of drunk driving in 2013, with the text, 'I don't always drive drunk at 3x the legal blood alcohol limit... but when I do, I indict Gov. Perry for calling me out about it. I am the most drunk Democrat in Texas.'
The tweet was quickly retweeted more than 600 times.

Perry, who was indicted last month on felony charges that he abused his powers as governor, quickly deleted the tweet, posting an apology.
'A tweet just went out from my account that was unauthorized,' he wrote on his account around 9:00 p.m. ET Sunday. 'I do not condone the tweet and I have taken it down.'

A Texas state grand jury indicted last month the tough-talking possible 2016 presidential candidate on abuse of official capacity and coercion of a public servant charges for his decision to veto funding for a public corruption investigative unit for Lehmberg's office.
Perry had threatened the vetoes for months after Lehmberg refused to resign after being arrested for drunken driving in April 2013.

Perry had claimed that he would not support funding such an initiative 'when the person charged with ultimate responsibility of that unit has lost the public's confidence.'
But Lehmberg, who pleaded guilty and served about three weeks in jail, never quit and Perry carried out his veto.
