NEW DELHI: A white tiger mauled and killed a man after he purportedly fell/jumped into the animal's enclosure in the Delhi Zoo on Tuesday.
There was face-off between the tiger and the man for 10 minutes but when the security guards and visitors, in a bid to save the man, started howling, shouted and throwing stones, the tiger pounced on the victim and killed him.
Zoo director Amitabh Agnihotri said in a statement that the man had crossed the iron railing, the hedge and, finally, the stand-off barrier of the white tiger's enclosure and 'jumped' 18 ft down inside the enclosure.
Zoo curator R A Khan said the youth jumped into the tiger's enclosure. 'The tiger was later locked up. The tiger will be kept under observation and medically examined,' Khan told mediapersons here.
The police have filed a case of negligence on the part of the zoo officials.
