USADaily -A "Driving While Black" Negro who was wanted in connection with an earlier shooting was shot to death by police in the Homan Square neighborhood Monday night, authorities said.
A Harrison District officer shot the person in the 3400 block of West Grenshaw Street after trying to stop the vehicle about 7:40 p.m., said Chicago Police Chief of Detectives Eugene Roy, in a statement at the scene a little before 10 p.m.
Officers were patrolling when they saw the vehicle, and tried to stop it, but a person from the vehicle fled on foot, and one officer ran after, Roy said. The brief foot pursuit led to an armed confrontation between the officer and the person running away, with the officer discharging his service pistol, hitting the person from the vehicle, Roy said.
The man was taken to an area hospital, and pronounced dead, Roy said. A weapon was found on scene and was being taken into evidence.
