The hit-and-run driver who mercilessly mowed down a 5-year-old boy in Staten Island turned himself in Saturday - but news of his arrest hasn't pacified the child's outraged family.
"Even if justice is brought, the damage is done," Adam Gendy, 22, said about the motorist who ran his cousin Kyrillos Gendy down in Dongan Hills Friday. "The boy is dead. The family is essentially dead. We're just emotionally traumatized."
Police sources said the motorist that sped from the scene surrendered to authorities and was being questioned by detectives. His name wasn't immediately released and charges were pending, police sources said.
Gendy said Kyrillos' mother Arini Thomas has completely shut down since the 8:30 p.m. accident.

We've tried - we've brought a psychiatrist (in) to come speak with her. But she just has no words to describe any of her emotions or any of the feelings that are going through her mind at this time."
Kyrillos' dad "is an absolute mess," Gendy added.
But what's worse is that Kyrillos' 9-year-old sister Gabriella has no idea that her beloved brother is dead - and that she's now an only child.
"She doesn't know that her brother has passed away," he said.

The sedan had just sped out of a parking lot next to Diddle Dee Bagels and Deli.
The sedan struck Kyrillos with such force that the child was vaulted into the air - his broken body landing on a nearby sidewalk, horrified witnesses said.
Arini, who sustained an eye injury raced over and prayed with her child as paramedics arrived. Gabriella suffered a broken ankle.

Sources said that the driver of the sedan didn't go into the bagel shop, but was idling in the parking lot before hitting Kyrillos.
Family members described Kyrillos as a plucky child who would always get up and dance every time he heard Alicia Keys' "Girl on Fire."
The fact that the driver who killed him was in custody brought little solace to Kyrillos' weeping relatives.
"Even if he got jail time, he killed this family," Gendy said. "This boy had his whole life in front of him."
