FREDERICK, Md. - Federal investigators are at the scene of a collision between an airplane and a helicopter near a Maryland airport that killed three men.
The National Transportation Safety Board is leading the investigation into what caused the Cirrus SR22 plane and a Robinson R44 helicopter to collide in the air Thursday. Investigators were combing the scene Friday for those answers.
All three men aboard the helicopter were killed. They were identified as 29-year-old Christopher Parsons of Westminster, Maryland; 35-year-old Breandan McFawn of Cumberland, Maryland; and 47-year-old William Jenkins of Morrison, Colorado.
Two men inside the airplane survived after deploying a parachute to slow the aircraft's descent before it landed in trees.
The FAA says the helicopter was in a training exercise when the collision occurred.
