The Powerball lottery jackpot climbed up to $400 million this week, and Wednesday marks the next chance to win.
No player had Saturday's winning numbers of 21-24-36-42-45 and Powerball 15, making the jackpot's cash value rise to more than $230 million before taxes.
The odds of matching all six numbers are roughly 1 in 175.2 million, according to Powerball.
A ticket bought in Milpitas matched five numbers but missed the Powerball number, according to the California Lottery. That ticket is worth about $1 million.
A $2 ticket gets you in the game - drawings are every Wednesday and Saturday.
Where are the local hot spots? Lichine's Liquor & Deli on South Land Park Drive in Sacramento has a lucky history with three winning tickets in the past. Meanwhile, AMPM in Granite Bay and Dry Creek U-Save Liquors in Galt have both had two winners each.
But $400 million is still quite far from the lottery record of $590 million. An 84-year-old Florida woman bought that winning ticket in May and took home a lump sum of $270 million after taxes.
