USADaily -
Embattled White House press secretary Sean Spicer, who was eviscerated on Saturday during his first press briefing for outright lying to the American people about the number of people who showed up at Trump’s inaugural, again lied during his press briefing today.
Today’s lie was about CIA employees allegedly cheering Donald Trump during his mea culpa tour of CIA headquarters on Saturday.
More from CBS:
Authorities are also pushing back against the perception that the CIA workforce was cheering for the president. They say the first three rows in front of the president were largely made up of supporters of Mr. Trump’s campaign.
An official with knowledge of the make-up of the crowd says that there were about 40 people who’d been invited by the Trump, Mike Pence and Rep. Mike Pompeo teams.
And then, asked about this moments ago, Spicer lied again: “I don’t think that’s accurate at all.” Spicer just claimed the White House only brought ten people with. CBS reports the first three rows were filled with Trump staff. And senior members of the intelligence community tell the press that they’re not comfortable with the White House claiming the CIA was cheering for Trump, when it was not.
Spicer then added, “I’m not sure why this matters.”
Stand up to Trump, stand up to the lies, join the thousands who have already signed the petition, demand that Sean Spicer resign.
In his press conference today, Spicer claimed there was no rift with the CIA, and it was proven by the fact that CIA employees stood and cheered Donald Trump on Saturday. Spicer is referring to the fact that just a week or two ago, Trump called the CIA “Nazis,” twice.
And while many on Saturday had the impression that the CIA was weighing in on domestic politics, thanks to the White House’s trickery, in fact the people cheering Trump were paid employees trucked in by the White House. This was the same stunt that Trump pulled at his “conflicts of interest” press briefing, at which Trump had his own staff peppered among the press, cheering in order to make it appear that even the media loved Trump.
This time, though, was even more egregious, as Trump had his staff pretend to be CIA employees cheering Trump’s criticism of the media. And in answer to Spicer’s earlier statement, about not understanding why this matters. It’s an incredibly dangerous message to have the CIA appear to be calling for the downfall of a free press in our country. Not only is this a dangerous message to send around the world, but it also may violate US law — the CIA is not permitted to get involved in domestic US politics. Yet that is what our new president appeared to have them do this past Saturday.
So, basically, Trump went to the CIA, ostensibly to mend fences, in turn used the CIA to bolster his own domestic politics, and then went on a rant about himself in front of the CIA’s memorial to those agents who lost their lives for our country.
No wonder the outgoing director of the CIA, John Brennan, on Saturday said that Trump should be ashamed of himself. Here is Brennan’s former deputy chief of staff. Read from the bottom up.
Stand up to Trump’s lies, sign the petition calling on Spicer to resign.
