Former Grand Wizard of the Ku Klux Klan is polling higher with African-Americans than Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump.
Duke is running for the US Senate from Louisiana — he tried the same thing in 1990, and was unsuccessful (though he created a scare in the GOP at the time).
A new poll of likely voters in Louisiana shows that 14% of American blacks plan to vote for Duke in the primary.
Oddly, among whites, the number is lower: 12%.
As McClatchy notes, Trump’s numbers among black in the region, and nationally, are far below Duke’s:
In three national polls released this week, Trump averages 2.3 percent from black voters. In Georgia, he got 5 percent. (In polls conducted before the conventions in Ohio and Pennsylvania, Trump got a now-infamous zero percent of support from black voters.)
The poll does show show that Duke polls higher with younger African-Americans, which perhaps means that millennials are less familiar with the man’s history. Still, it’s pretty weird.
