USADaily -
Republican party head Reince Priebus is now claiming that a whopping 80% of the Clinton Foundation’s expenses go to overhead.
That’s a lie.
According to Politifact, one of the most respected independent political fact-checking organizations, around 12% of the Clinton Foundation’s expenses go to overhead, the rest goes to programs and services (i.e., helping poor and sick people in developing countries).
Rush Limbaugh and Carly Fiorina have made similar false claims about the Foundation’s overhead expenses.
Say what you will about the Clintons, but their Foundation is impeccable. It does great work, has saved millions of lives, and as a result has an A rating from the American Institute of Philanthropy’s Charity Watch — which also concluded that 12% of the money the Clinton Foundation raises goes to overhead.
For a party that claims to have gotten beyond its penchant for intolerance, it’s interesting that the Republicans are so hell-bent on shutting down an organization that is currently providing life-saving drugs to 11.8 million people with AIDS in developing countries, including 800,000 children.
You’d think trying to shut that down would be a bad thing. And trying to shut it down based on a lie is borderline bigoted, as it shows a rank disregard for the lives of people with AIDS.
That’s something the Republicans told us they’d finally gotten beyond, promoting policies that blithely kill people with HIV.
Yeah, not so much.
